Prior to 2018, mortgage interest on all properties, including primary residences, second homes and investment properties, was deductible for up to $1 million in mortgage debt. The 2018 tax rules drop the deductible mortgage debt amount to $750, 000, although existing homeowners of properties purchased prior to December 15, 2017, are grandfathered in under the old law. While the information above is accurate to our best knowledge, this article should not be construed as tax advice. Borrowers considering the purchase of an additional home should consult a tax professional.
The question as to whether or not life insurance money is taxable has many different facets to it. In other words, it is not a simple question to answer. When you talk about life insurance money, you should talk about the premiums paid in and the benefits paid out. Some life insurance policies are used to defer taxes while interest grows, while others are straightforward policies that only pay a death benefit. Death Benefit Any money paid as a death benefit to a beneficiary is not subject to any federal or state income tax. There are no exemptions or surprises to this rule. If the owner of the life insurance policy at the time of death is the original owner and you are a beneficiary of that policy, then the money is distributed to you tax free. If the policy was sold or transferred to someone else, then there will be income tax implications based on how much the new owner paid into the policy before the insured passed away. Whole Life A whole life policy is one that has a death benefit and an investment portion.
01-24-2004, 04:57 PM #4 yes Nyphys summed it up nicely. FPs tend to be the "jack of all trades". They do some adults, some peds, some gyn, some OB (mostly in rural areas, as stated). As an internist, all I know how to take care of are adults. Most of my residency experience was inpatient. In the future, residency programs will be requiring more outpatient experience, since most of us do primary care. FPs are very limited in terms of fellowship options. I think they can do sports medicine and a couple of others, but nothing like GI, Cards, etc. Fps cannot function as hospitalists. I am told that some hospitals won't grant privs to FPs. It really depens on what you want to do. If you never want to touch a kid or do gyn, then FP would waste a lot of your time. If being able to do a bit of everything appeals to you, then FP is great. Others take to drinking as a diversion from issues, like ill health, financial worries, or work stress. In some instances, genetics or family history might be an underlying cause. It is important to note that a person does not take to drink due to someone else's behavior. So, blaming oneself for the behavior of a family member will not serve any purpose.
